The Corporate Sector and Children’s Rights Benchmark: Methodology
- What is the benchmark?
The benchmark is an annual evaluation of around 1,800 companies. It assesses how they address children’s rights and integrate these into reporting practices.
- How is the sample selected?
Global Child Forum uses the World Benchmarking Alliance’s SDG2000 list as its base universe. Industries follow ISIC classifications, while sectors are categorised using Refinitiv’s TRBC.
- How is the study conducted?
Publicly available English language information (such as sustainability reports) is assessed against 26 indicators.
Scores range from 0 (no information) to 10 (describing how children’s rights are addressed). The benchmark reflects only what companies publicly disclose; not real‑world compliance or impact.
Companies receive results in advance of publication to review and offer feedback. Engagement with Global Child Forum—whether as a partner, (initiative) member, event participant, or featured on our channels—does not affect a company’s benchmark score. Benchmark scores are solely based on publicly available information, and are calculated in accordance with our public methodology.
- How can business use the data?
Indicators align with the Children’s Rights and Business Principles and cover Governance and Collaboration, Workplace, Marketplace, and Community and Environment. The benchmark helps companies understand their performance across these areas and identify where improvements are needed.
