The impact of climate-related displacement on children

As climate change exerts an ever-stronger grip on the world’s weather patterns, the impact on children is severe.

Both physical and mental health (through climate anxiety) can be affected, and in many countries, children are being afflicted by climate-related displacement.

Uprooting children from their homes causes untold damage to their sense of security and disrupts access to fundamental services including education and healthcare.

43.1 million internal displacements of children occurred between 2016 and 2021, which were linked to weather related disasters exacerbated by climate change. That’s the equivalent to approximately 20,000 child displacements per day.
